If you run the commands on the Media Vault via telnet:

smartctl -fa /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/disc (for the internal
drive)

or

smartctl -fa /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc (for the mobile rack
drive)
